RHYTHM IS A MYSTERY

11 March 2007

After missing his cue in last night's song, Fred was shocked not to be in the bottom three. And today he revealed the reason behind his slip-up.

Fred's performance of Happy Talk did nothing to impress the judges, but Fred thinks that the route of his problems is his terrible timing.

Talking to David about last night's show, a deflated Fred said: "I thought I was singing again [in the sing-off]. Let's not beat around the bush, it wasn't a performance worthy of TV."

"You let yourself down," Vocal Coach David agreed, "and I know what you're capable of".

"There is this big thing that we need to talk about," Fred confessed. "Counting in and timing is a nightmare for me. I can't hit my opening cue and it's been happening since day one."

Deadly serious, he continued:"I asked if there was a cure for this... I am the least musical person left in the Academy... I go out of time even clapping along with songs. If there is such a condition as musical dyspraxia, I've got it!"

Remaining straight-faced about Fred's diagnosis, David encouraged: "But when we rehearsed yesterday, you nailed it three times."

"It was a fluke!" Fred interrupted him.

Tonight Fred will be singing the James Blunt hit You're Beautiful, which will definitely test his timing. To prepare him, David gave Fred some clapping exercises - which required him to clap on certain beats.

He got off to a dodgy start, but eventually he "nailed" it, to quote David.

Yaay Fred, you're cured!
