EMOTION COMMOTION

11 March 2007

We haven't really seen much of the real Shaun so far, but this morning he couldn't contain his emotions.

During his vocal training session with David, tears stopped Shaun getting further than the first line of the Celine Dion classic My Heart Will Go On.

"Last night, you said that you found it hard to open up. Most people don't see that," David told him.

"No, because I'm an actor," Shaun explained. "When you have a degree of fame you end up playing that role wherever you go."

He confessed: "When you get thrown together with a lot of strong characters and some of them are very funny people... I tend to go 'I'm not that funny or entertaining so I'll shut up'."

But having just said all of that, Shaun proceeded to actually go right ahead and let the real him spill out. Singing the first line of the hit Titanic track, Shaun began to cry.

"Go with it 'cos this is real," David encouraged as Shaun furiously wiped his eyes.

Fighting through the tears, Shaun went from the top, but again welled up after the opening line.

As he gave his nose a hearty blow David told him: "Don't be afraid of this feeling. If you connect with this rather than shielding it, we will connect with you."

Shaun took his vocal coach's advice and managed to sing the song beautifully all the way to the end.

Hugging Shaun, an impressed David said: "That's the first time I've ever heard that song sung by anybody with any emotion."

Loving your work, Shaun!
