Richard Park - Head Teacher / Judge
Richard has spent most of his illustrious career in the radio business as a broadcaster and broadcast manager. Having trained as a journalist, he worked for the BBC before joining Radio Clyde. During his time at the Glasgow station he was the first winner of the prestigious
Sony Local Radio Broadcaster of the Year Award and also won prizes for his sporting commentaries.
He joined Capital Radio in 1987 and as programme controller led the station to the biggest audiences ever achieved. He launched a revamped Capital FM and introduced Capital Gold to the airwaves in 1988. He was instrumental in launching many successful broadcasting careers and set up a successful sports department for the London stations.
Richard was also directly responsible for the inception of the Hyde
Park Party in the Park and the birth of the million album-selling Wildstar records.
Richard left Capital in early 2001 to open a consultancy business. Among his clients have been Universal Records, Channel 4, Really Useful Group and Express newspapers. He is currently consultant programme director at EMAP station Magic and has performed other consultancy duties for that company.
As the infamous Head Teacher of
Fame Academy, Richard has moved from sound to vision and now appears regularly on a variety of TV chat shows.
