Ray has carved out a successful career in sports broadcasting after playing professional football with Tranmere Rovers FC. He currently works for BBC Sport presenting Football Focus and Final Score as well as coverage of snooker and darts. Occasionally, you’ll see him at the helm on Match of the Day.
The lad from The Wirral has come a long way since his early days as a reporter and presenter for BBC Radio Merseyside. Since 1986 Ray has produced, reported and presented on a number of sports programmes including A Question of Sport and BBC Two’s On The Line, an investigative programme on England fans at the Italia ‘90 World Cup.
He reported from the Irish camp during the 1994 World Cup in America, and was the BBC's reporter-in-residence in the England camp during Euro ‘96 and the 1998 World Cup in France.
Ray co-hosted coverage of the 1998 Winter Olympics, co-presented coverage of the 1998 Commonwealth Games and has also reported for BBC One’s On Side. More recently he helped present Match of the Day as part of the BBC's World Cup 2006 coverage.
