About half of the 700 Mountain Gorillas left in the world live in Uganda's Bwindi Forest. Trekking for hours through thick vegetation, the programme makers were able to watch the gorillas living here. With several trips to Bwindi over the course of a year the crew eventually got to know the gorillas' distinct characters and had the privilege of seeing some pivotal moments in their lives.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in south western Uganda is an area of rainforest smaller than the Isle of Wight covering part of the Albertine Rift Valley. The forest is a UNESCO World Heritage site and famous for its mountain gorillas.
