The Life programme team were in West Papua to film the courtship performance of the vogelkop bowerbird. These birds build one of the most elaborately decorated structures in the animal kingdom. They are only found in the forests of West Papua.
Stephen LyleStephen has spent the last nine years filming wildlife for programmes about subjects as diverse as sharks, primates and reptiles.
The western part of the island of New Guinea contains the sparsely populated Indonesian province of West Papua. The team camped in the densely forested Arfak Mountains, 1,700 metres on top of a mountain ridge and a day's walk from the nearest village.
