The Age of Aquarius
Metronomy started out in Totnes, Devon, after vocalist Joseph Mount had been drumming in various other bands and decided to form his own. He started writing and recording songs on his computer and after moving to Brighton he released ‘Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)’ in 2006.
Over the next 3 years, Mount remixed many other artists including Gorillaz, Roots Manuva, Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons, Goldfrapp, The Young Knives, Zero 7, Ladytron, Kate Nash and Lykke Li, often adding new vocals and instrumentation.
The band’s 3rd album ‘English Riviera’ was nominated for a Mercury Prize in 2011. The album won huge prise and was called “visionary” (NME), “exotic” (Mojo) and “stylish” (The Times) and i-D even called the band “pioneers”. Metronomy went on to sell out the Royal Albert Hall and tour Europe and North America extensively.
The band’s 4th record ‘Love Letters’ arrived in March and reached no 7. The lead single ‘I'm Aquarius’ is said to be inspired by Diana Ross and The Supremes' 1969 album.
