Bobby Gillespie chats to Lauren Laverne
Don't Fight It, Feel It
Primal Scream are cherished in their ability to capture the mood of the nation through music. Starting life in the 80’s as an indie pop duo of Bobby Gillespie and Jim Beattie, they set out to challenge their dissatisfaction with music at the time.
However, it was only when they took a more psychedelic twist with the release of Screamadelica did both the critics and the mainstream really stand up and take notice. Winning the inaugural Mercury Music Prize, the seminal album contained their first major hit Loaded, remixed by DJ Andrew Weatherall after Gillespie met him at a rave.
Nine studio albums later, they’ve seen huge chart success with singles Rocks, Country Girl and Movin’ On Up. They've also changed line up several times - at one point employing the talents of Stone Roses alumni Mani on bass.
They are a British institution, an unashamedly rock ‘n’ roll juggernaut. Maida Vale won’t know what’s hit it.
