Radio 1's Hackney Weekend 2012, Joe Black

24 Jun 2012
BBC Introducing Stage

Street lyricist and mixtape master

Labelled by BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Charlie Sloth as one of the best homegrown rappers in the UK, Joe Black brings a self-belief and ability to Hackney that even headliner Jay-Z would be proud of.

While he’s firmly a hip hop talent now, Joe started out MCing over speed garage in the late 1990s. He’s a raw, passionate lyricist who draws inspiration from his life and struggles growing up on the streets of London.

Like K Koke, Giggs and Rick Ross (all of whom Joe has performed alongside) Joe Black has a style and attitude that forces you to take notice. His many mixtapes have already been heavily praised by The Mixtape Awards, MTV and The Source especially 2011’s Realionaire which also featured Young Teflon, G Money and Benny Banks. Need we say more...
