An sumptuous evening of romantic repertoire spanning the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Nielsen’s occasional overture is an exquisitely drawn programmatic work detailing a fantasy journey whilst Strauss’s Oboe Concerto is a dazzling virtuoso tour de force and an achingly sensuous and opulent work. The Festival is fortunate to have one of the world's greatest oboists joining us for his second appearance this year. Tchaikovsky’s ever-popular symphony of yearning and passion brings the evening to a close with its dazzling orchestral colours and well-loved melodies.
