Israel Decides
They've won Eurovision three times in the past, but has Israel chosen a song this year that will help them make it four? Last night, Israeli TV viewers watched as the song "There Must Be Another Way" was selected by a combination of phone votes from the public and regional jury votes.
Israel had already picked a very unusual act to represent them in Moscow - the world-renowned Israeli female vocalist Noa, and the Arab-Israeli singer/actress Mira Awad were chosen to sing a duet. Of course, such a politically charged duo has already attracted criticism from many different ends of the political spectrum. Will a song that sings about peace, performed by an Israeli and an Arab-Israeli performer win votes? Only time will tell...
Israel first entered the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1973, and has done very well indeed over the years. They've finished in third place once, second place twice, and have won on three occasions: in 1978 with Izhar Cohen & the Alphabeta singing "A-Ba-Ni-Bi" in 1979 with Milk and Honey singing "Hallelujah", and infamously in 1998 with Dana International singing "Diva".
