Rodolfo Chikilicuarte is laying down the gauntlet to Dustin the Turkey in the novelty stakes at this year's contest. Rodolfo is a fictional character created by comedian David Fern·ndez Ortiz for the Spanish comedy series Buenafuente. With a huge Elvis-style quiff he sings a Latin mix of rap and reggae, and claims to be the inventor of vibrator-guitar. Admit it, you're laughing already.

Track record:

The Spanish selection process embraced social networking this year, asking artists to submit their entries via MySpace. The top entries then performed in a televised national contest. So you can truly blame the internet for Rodolfo's presence at Eurovision. Spain has been competing in Eurovision since 1961 and has had a healthy run including two wins. However since 2005, and the introduction of the qualifiers, it has only scraped the top 20.
