This webcam is sited on the roof of the BBC Essex building which stands on the corner of the crossroads where Writtle Road joins New London Road.

Built in 1839, New London Road runs parallel to historic Moulsham Street leading from the original London Road right into the town centre crossing the River Can.

Writtle Road crosses the main line railway into London Liverpool Street, and was in the 19th century the site of Cromptons electrical engineering factory, later owned by Marconi and now transformed into a development of family homes.
