In EssexThe staff and volunteers at Chigwell Row Wood nature reserve have been out and about showing people the wonders of the ancient woodland on their doorstep. Epping Forest District Council say the woodland has a fascinating history with links back to the Royal Forest of Essex as designated by Henry I in the 12th century. For the last twenty years volunteer projects have helped conserve the wood and also improve access for visitors to the woodland. ![]() There are many types of moth in Essex Elsewhere in Essex, the RSPB has been teaching people more about moths and welcoming visitors to Wat Tyler Country Park, Basildon. Alan Shearman, from the RSPB in Essex says, "Moths are an essential part of the food chain, they are fascinating creatures and there are far more types of moth than butterfly." You could start a compost heap, make a 'bug home', bake a bird cake, dig a pond or plant some bee friendly flowers. We'd love to see what you've been doing so send us a photo.
