BBC Essex Introducing... David Simon

David Simon and his brilliant backing band join Mike and Ollie for a live session, plus Jules Parker, from PRS for Music, tells us how YOU can be making money from your unsigned Essex music.

David Simon

So, to help kick-off the summer of '09, David Simon will be joining us in the studio for two live acoustic tracks.

We'll also have a chat about what he has been doing over the past few months and what exciting things will be happening to David and his band throughout the rest of the year.

"I didn't even know that as an unsigned act, you could receive money from PRS for Music just for doing a live gig"

Ollie Winiberg-Bettell

PRS for Music

Also, Jules Parker of PRS for Music join Mike and I on the show to tell us all about how you can make money with your unsigned music.

Jules was recently on the Connexions panel with myself and Mike a few weeks ago, where he spoke words of wisdom to all those musicians who attended the event that hopefully would have inspired them to sign up to PRS for Music.

We were really impressed with what he said, and think you guys need to hear what he has to say too!

I didn't even know that as an unsigned act, you could receive money from PRS for Music just for doing a live gig.  Over 10 live gigs could get you £60.  Doesn't sound a lot, but if you gig ALL the time then that is a serious amount of money!

Dream Theatre

On a personal and completely irrelevant note, my favourite band in the WHOLE world 'Dream Theatre' recently gave away their single ‘A Rite of Passage' via their website to promote their new album which is released on June 23.

I honestly was disappointed.  I thought it would be a lot better than it is, but in a strange way, as they are my favourite band, I feel loyal towards them, and I must like the new tune... if you get what I mean?

The chorus is good... but the rest isn't great. Have you heard it? If so, what did you think?
