BBC Essex has won two Golds in the 2008 Gillard Awards - in the Interactivity and the Diversity categories.
Sadie Nine's Loud Women show picked up the Interactive Gold, and a delighted Sadie enthused: "It just means everything. It's a brand new show, it's being going for less than a year and we just open our hearts up. "The show is amazing and I just love doing it. I can't wait to tell all my loud women and they're going to be absolutely over the moon." The Diversity Award entry included the story of Lucy, who talked openly about her transgender process. ![]() The BBC Essex team get ready to celebrate The entry also featured content about the lives of Polish immigrants living in Essex and the thoughts of inmates at Chelmsford Prison at Christmas time. BBC Essex's Managing Editor Gerald Main said: "The judges were really complementary, I think they felt our programming was exciting and contemporary. "They recognised that the staff at BBC Essex work pretty hard, they have fun and it's nice recognition for all of that." Named after Frank Gillard, the wartime reporter who went on to set up local radio, the awards recognise the very best across the country.
