Bishop John Gladwin

"The unlimited nature of God’s love"

"The meaning of our salvation"

The Bishop of Chelmsford, The Right Reverend John Gladwin, tells us why the Passion is an important time for all Christians.

Why is 'The Passion' important for Christians?

It is great the BBC are screening the film on the Passion.  This is the heart of the Christian story and the meaning of our salvation.

What does it mean to you?

The unlimited nature of God’s love for me.

Is there any special way that you mark it?

I read the Gospel stories afresh each year and seek to be at a three hour service on Good Friday.

Is the story still relevant today?

Very relevant in a world marked by so much conflict, abuse of people's lives, and violence.  God's love carries our inhumanity on the shoulders of a love that transforms us.

How do you know the Resurrection happened?

Through the witness of the disciples and of millions down the centuries who know the love of God alive in their lives.

How did you feel about the way it was portrayed in Mel Gibson's controversial film – 'The Passion of the Christ'?

I have not seen the film but it makes us face the awful brutality of it and the cost of true love.
