Pupils are making nests

Pupils at the Briscoe Primary School have been working with local artists to explore the idea of what it means to be part of their local community. The project is called "Nest."

Nest is a project that pupils at the Briscoe Primary School in Basildon have been working on with local artists.

They have been exploring the idea of being part of a community and as a result are installing lots of different animal "nests" around the school.

All the ideas culminate in a one day promenade performance where family and friends will be led around the school, and bump into naughty rabbits, sheep, and even roller-skating mother hens.

Parents are also taking part in the event and some of the pupils will dress up as "twitchers" to lead the visitors around the building.

Jules Maxwell

Jules plays music through his music box

Jules Maxwell is a composer who has also been working with the children in the school. In an ironic twist he has been using a music box to explore the idea of being quiet.

The word quiet has been punched into paper and played through the music box.  The sound the word quiet makes is now being used by one of the teachers during class time.

The project was commissioned by Creative Partnerships and artist Sarah Cole has been leading the project.
