Introducing... Mike Bromfield and Ollie Winiberg

Let the unsigned pioneers, Mike and Ollie, bring you the best in local unsigned bands in 'BBC Essex Introducing...' every Friday evening from 7pm.

We LOVE music – we love playing it, recording it, listening to it, promoting it and talking about it. In fact we're pair of music freaks who can't wait to present BBC Introducing – a show which plays the best music from emerging talent across the country.

Our new show will play the best, hottest and most exiting new music from emerging talent, unsigned bands and breaking artists from across the county.

"Our show uncovers the exact local talent that, maybe one day, has the potential to be music that will be available nationally"

Who knows, the music you hear on our new Friday night show, could be the very same tracks you hear on MTV a few months down the line.

Our new show ‘BBC Essex Introducing’ will be run in conjunction with other regional BBC ‘introducing’ shows and the best new acts from each region will be played on our sister station – RADIO 1!

If you’re a music fan, tune in to hear your new favourite bands and if you're an undiscovered musical talent from Essex, and want YOUR music to be considered for airplay, we'd love to hear from you.

If you are an unsigned band and want the chance of hearing you music on BBC Essex, you can e-mail them or send a demo CD to:

Mike's BIG questions:

What was your first radio memory?

Sitting in the garden when I was very young, with a dictaphone, pretending to record my own show!

How did you first get into radio?

Purely by coincidence! Ollie and I were invited onto John Hayes & Etholle George's breakfast show in June '07 for an interview regarding our strong involvement with the music scene in Southend.

Gerald Main, the station's Managing Editor, happened to be listening to the show and liked how we sounded, so phoned into the show and offered us a job live on air!

What is your favourite song ever?

I don't have a favourite. It's impossible to put my finger on one, but at the moment it's the unsigned band 'Vinny Vinny' from Southend, with "Should've let me go".

What one thing makes Essex so special?

I don't think I could say anything other than its amazing music culture. It is thriving with venues, bands, musicians - and many many talented ones at that - and I think those who are part of it should be proud!

Ollie's BIG questions:

What was your first radio memory?

Well, that would have to be when I was about five or six and I used to stand up to the radio and record some songs with my Mum's old Walkman and ended up making stupidly long shows!

How did you first get into radio?

With the hi-fly music label. I'd set up a record label with thanks to the Southend 'Fix it Fund'.

Then my Mum got in touch with BBC Essex to see if they wanted any information on what I was doing. They asked for an interview, so I was extremely happy about that, as you can imagine!

I then got in contact with Mike and told him I was having an interview and decided to bring him along to take part.

Then, Gerald Main (the Managing Editor of BBC Essex) offered us a job on air after listening to us!

WOOOO!

What is your favourite song ever?

Easy question! "Instrumedly" by Dream Theater.

What one thing makes Essex so special?

Well other than Mike and I (that's a joke!), I think that the music scene is growing really fast! You can't walk down Southend High Street without being given a flyer for a gig that is happening later on that day!

But that's a great thing and I love it!
