Hundreds queue for designer bag

Hundreds of people across Essex have been in a jubilant mood today after picking up a bargain designer bag.

The designer accessory has been selling for more than £100 on the internet but the supermarket chain, Sainsbury's, has been offering a limited number for just £5.

The 20,000 cotton bags, which bear the words "I am not a plastic bag," are aiming to help the environment.

At the Chelmsford store people had been camping overnight to make sure they bagged theirs.

Ninety people left with one, but many more were left disappointed after being turned away.

Tom Warmington, from the BBC Essex Breakfast programme, queued for two hours and managed to get one of the last ones and to give away on the programme.

Whilst he was there Tom asked some of the people in the queue why they wanted one of the bags, one girl said:

"I've just come because my sister has been bugging me for a couple of weeks to come and get it, I just want one because everybody wants one."

Another shopper had been keeping a close eye on the bags over the last few weeks:

"I saw it about a month ago in a magazine and have been tracing it online."

The bag was won by BBC Essex listener Daphne from Hadleigh.
