Zeal

A fashion show
Are girls under pressure to be size zero

Size zero = twig… nice

Zeal writer Kimberley
The 'size zero' debate is an issue for young people. Zeal writer Kimberley looks at the pressure on teenage girls to be thin.

Everyone now wants to be an astonishing size zero which in the UK is a size 4, for us girls it means squeezing into a pair of jeans that are a 22 inch waist, the size of average eight-year-olds.

Because some of the celebs in the United States and the UK are size zeros people now, who follow the fashion want to be like them because they think it’s the right way to be.  But this is wrong with a capital W - it may look good in some people's eyes, the people who are already on their way to being painfully thin, but if you look carefully there skin is pale and dry, their hair is like straw, their bones are sticking out left right and centre and you always feel weak and ill.  Does this appeal to you?  It certainly doesn't appeal to me.

Now there even bringing in a size 00!  Crazy I think, this would mean for a girl having a 20 inch waist and 32 inch hips, why, this is like being the same size as your little sister of 6 or 7.

I first thought that a size 8 was skinny but if you put this to a size 0 person it doesn't even borderline the word skinny.  I'm a comfortable size 10 and when I look at all these size 0 models I feel happy as I know I am healthy and not at risk to any health problems.

Unfortunately two models on the catwalk were size 0 and sadly died, Luisel Ramos collapsed during Uruguay’s Fashion Week after being applauded by spectators, she then died later after heart failure, this is because they were allowed to get this thin as people are making clothes this small and making them fit into them without thinking about their health.  Now they have banned size 0 from fashion shows but I feel they have done this too late they could have saved their lives if they had brought the ban in earlier.

Now there is the size zero pill, it is made for horses when they have trouble breathing but in humans it triggers rapid weight loss, for some people it may help but it has many side affects that many people bypass just so that they can lose considerable amounts of weight.  It raises your blood pressure and also kills your appetite; this is how you lose weight, from not eating.

What sort of things they will think of next, I personally don't agree with being a size zero as it is a danger to yourself.  My advice to anyone who’s thinking of becoming a size zero is don't, there are many heath issues involved with the size its not all about being skinny.  If hearing that people have died from being this size doesn't put you off, then I don't think anything anyone could say could change your mind.
