Sally Gunnell, OBE, was born in Chigwell, Essex.  She has been an Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles and has worked as a television presenter for the BBC.

Recently, in 2006, she took part in the BBC1 TV programme Only Fools on Horses to raise money for Comic Relief.

Sally is the only woman who has managed to hold the European, World, Commonwealth and Olympic 400 metre hurdles titles all at the same time.

She won the 400m hurdles at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona but the defence of her Olympic title was cut short when she had to pull out of one of the races in Atlanta in 1996.

You can listen to Sally chatting to BBC Essex's Gary Butcher about her career as an athlete for Essex at 20.
