Cannon and Ball
Having a ball in panto in Southend

Havina a Cannon and Ball

Comedy duo Cannon and Ball are currently starring in panto at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend - they talk to BBC Essex's Steve Scruton about the highs and lows of their career.

Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball were born in Oldham.  They met in the 60s while working in the same factory.

The duo toured the northern cabaret circuit during the 70s.  They broke into TV on Bruce Forsyth's Big Night their sketches were dropped but they went onto have their own ITV series during the 80s.

The former welders are of one Britain's most successful double acts - with a career spanning more than 40 years.  Last year they appeared on the ITV1 reality show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

BBC Essex's Steve Scruton has been speaking to the duo about their early days in the Working men's club, their much publicised falling-out and how they rediscovered Christianity.
