Braintree & Bocking Carnival

The first Carnival took place in the summer of 1964 and was planned to be a 'one-off event'. More than 40 years later the Braintree and Bocking Carnival is still going strong.

Final preparations are underway for this year's Braintree and Bocking Carnival, with the them "All Creatures Great and Small".

Organisers and volunteers have spent more than six months getting everything ready for the big day.  Last year's event was one of the most successful ever, they're hoping this year it'll be even bigger and better.

The Carnival procession leaves from Lakes Road at 2.30pm, moves along Manor Street into the High Street and into Pierrefitte Way.  It then crosses Coggeshall Road, up Aetheric Road, left into Panfield Lane.  At the mini roundabout goes right into Coldnailhurst Avenue, left into Queens Road, then into Dukes Road, Currants Farm Road and ends at Meadowside at about 3.30pm.

Joining the Carnival procession will be the Smoke Blue Marching Jazz Band, Marxmen, Braintree Scout and Guide band, Chelmsford Sea Cadets Marching Band, Essex School of Samba, Chapelettes Majorettes and the BBC Essex Birthday Bus, with some familiar faces on the top deck.

At Meadowside, Carnival Queen Leona Garratt will open the fete at 4pm.  BBC Essex's Steve Scruton will be broadcasting live from the fete between 2pm and 5pm.
