Essex Way - Route Eight
Distance:7.4 miles
Advice:Once out of Coggeshall it is mostly good paths along field edges. On the approach to East Gores, the path follows farm tracks which are used by tractors and are deeply rutted, you will appreciate the ankle support that boots give in these conditions.
In Brief:The walk starts in Coggeshall and ends in Ford Street
Start:Starts Coggeshall. For the Personal Journey Planner call the Essex Traffic Control Centre on 0845 6000110. Or public transport information on 0870 60 2608 or travelwise@essexcc.gov.uk
Points of interest:The small concrete pillboxes dotted along the Colne Valley are the remains of World War II 'stop-line' which was hurriedly constructed after the evacuation from Dunkirk in June 1940. It was hoped to hold back a German advance from the East Coast.
