Come and join the celebration,
It's a very special day;
come and share our jubilation,
there's a new King born today!

See the shepherds
hurry down to Bethlehem;
gaze in wonder
at the Son of God who lay before them.

Come and join…

Wise men journey,
led to worship by a star,
Kneel in homage,
bringing precious gifts from lands afar, so…

Come and join…

'God is with us'
'round the world the message bring;
He is with us,
'Welcome!' all the bells on earth are pealing.

Come and join the celebration,
It's a very special day;
come and share our jubilation,
there's a new King born today!
there’s a new king born today!

Introduction and welcome from BBC Essex's Ray Clark and Chris Bard

CAROL TWO

O come all ye faithful,
joyful and triumphant
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him, born the king of angels

O come, let us adore him!
O come, let us adore him!
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!

God from God,
Light from light –
He, who abhors not the virgin's womb!
Son of the Father, begotten not created.

O come let us adore him….

Sing, choirs of angels,
sing in exultation!
Sing all you citizens of heaven above,
'Glory to God, glory in the highest!'

O come let us adore him….

CAROL THREE

Once in royal David's city (solo)
(ALL) stood a lowly cattle shed,
where a mother laid her baby
in a manger for his bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven
who is God and Lord of all;
and his shelter was a stable
and his cradle was a stall:
with the poor and meek and lowly
lived on earth our Saviour holy.

And our eyes at last shall see him,
through his own redeeming love;
for that child, so dear and gentle,
is our Lord in heaven above:
and he leads his children on
to the place where he is gone.

Not in that poor lowly stable,
With the oxen standing by,
We shall see Him; but in Heaven,
Set at God’s right hand on high;
There His children gather round
Bright like stars, with glory crowned

Mary hears about the coming of a baby – Luke 1:26-33

CAROL FOUR

The first nowell the angel did say
Was to Bethlehem’s shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay tending their sheep,
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell,
Born is the King of Israel.

Then wise men from a country far
Looked up and saw a guiding star;
They traveled on by night and day
To reach the place where Jesus lay

Chorus

At Bethlehem they entered in,
On bended knee they worshipped Him;
They offered there, in His presence,
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.

Chorus

Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord;
That hath made heaven and earth of naught,
And with His love mankind hath bought.

An angel visits Joseph – Matthew 1:19-24

CAROL FIVE

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Mary and Joseph in stable bare
Watched o’er the child beloved and fair
Sleeping in heavenly peace,
Sleeping in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds first saw the light
Heard resounding clear and long
Far and near the angel’s song
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love’s pure light;
Love is smiling from your face
With the dawn of saving grace,
Saviour, since you are born,
Saviour, since you are born.

The Baby is born – Luke 2:1-7

CAROL SIX

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head;
the stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
but little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes:
I love you, Lord Jesus - look down from the sky
and stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask you to stay
close by me for ever and love me, I pray;
bless all the dear children in your tender care,
and fit us for heaven to live with you there.

Shepherds visit Jesus – Luke 2:8-12

CAROL SEVEN

While shepherds watched their flocks by night,
all seated on the ground,
the angel of the Lord came down
and glory shone around.

'Fear not' said he - for mighty dread
had seized their troubled mind -
'Glad tidings of great joy I bring
to you and all mankind:

'To you in David's town this day
is born of David's line
a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord,
and this shall be the sign:

'The heavenly babe you there shall find
to human view displayed,
all tightly wrapped in swaddling bands
and in a manger laid.'

Thus spoke the angel; and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God, who thus
Addressed heir joyful song:

`All glory be to God on high,
and to the earth be peace;
good-will henceforth from heaven to earth
begin and never cease!'

Wise men visit Jesus – Matthew 2:1-2 & 9-12

CAROL EIGHT

(Women & children)
This Child, secretly comes in the night,
oh this Child, hiding a heavenly light,
oh this Child, coming to us like a stranger,
this heavenly Child.

(All)
This Child,
heaven come down now to be with us here,
heavenly love and mercy appear,
softly in awe and wonder come near
to this heavenly Child.

(Men)
This Child, rising on us like the sun,
oh this Child, given to light everyone,
oh this Child, guiding our feet on the pathway
to peace on earth.

(All)
This Child,
heaven come down now to be with us here,
heavenly love and mercy appear,
softly in awe and wonder come near
to this heavenly Child.

(All)
This Child, raising the humble and poor,
oh this Child, making the proud ones to fall;
this Child, filling the hungry with good things,
this heavenly Child.

This Child,
heaven come down now to be with us here,
heavenly love and mercy appear,
softly in awe and wonder come near
to this heavenly Child.

This Child,
heaven come down now to be with us here,
heavenly love and mercy appear,
softly in awe and wonder come near
to this heavenly Child,
to this heavenly Child,
to this heavenly Child,
to this heavenly Child.

CAROL NINE

O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see you lie.
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by;
Yet in your dark streets shineth
is everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in you tonight.

How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may hear His coming;
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him, still
The dear Christ enters in.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin and enter in;
Be born in us today!
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Immanuel!

A Christmas Message

CAROL 10

Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the new born King;
peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!
Joyful all you nations rise,
join the triumph of the skies;
with the angelic host proclaim,
`Christ is born in Bethlehem'
Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the new born King;

Christ, by highest heaven adored,
Christ the everlasting Lord:
late in time behold him come,
offspring of a virgin's womb;
veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
hail the incarnate Deity!
pleased as man with man to dwell,
Jesus our Immanuel:
Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the new born King;

Hail, the heaven-born prince of peace,
hail the Sun of Righteousness;
light and life to all he brings,
risen with healing in his wings:
mild, he lays his glory by,
born that we no more may die;
born to raise us from the earth,
born to give us second birth:
Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the new born King;
