Q: What makes you laugh? A: Naturally funny people telling real stories and funny situations. I hate people telling me pub jokes, so much so I refuse to even crack a smile when they get to the punchline. It might be cruel, but I need to spare myself from them telling more throughout the evening. I love stories when people can laugh at their own misfortune. Q: Who makes you laugh? A: My close friends Cecilia Smart and Mike Manera make me laugh on a weekly basis. Tony Law and Tom Stade win my award for being funny on stage and incredibly hilarious off stage. My favourite comedian at the moment is Phil Nicol. Funnily enough, the last three are all Canadians. Q: Do you prefer entertaining kids or adults? A: Can I say both? Making kids laugh is difficult because they're honest about what they find funny. However the rewards are great when you get a whole room of kids laughing hysterically. Adults can also be difficult because you get some people that go to comedy with the intention to sit there like a sour puss and not laugh. It's great to see them crack their make up with grin they can't help. Q: What was the last film you saw? A: League of Gentlemen Apocalypse. I'm a massive fan of the series, but can't stand the string of third rate copycat versions that are popping up all over the place. The film was good, but a bit disappointing. They set the goal too high and it was difficult to achieve. Q: What do you drive? A: I have never learned to drive. I am planning on learning next year, but I won't be able to buy a car as I have no permanent address for a parking permit. Q: What are you reading? A: Bill Hicks 'Agent of Evolution'. I've been reading it on and off for the last three months. I keep picking up copies of 'Transmetropolitan' and reading that instead. Both are great reads. Q: Where's your favourite place in Essex? Why? A: My mate Hazel's house in Wivenhoe. Many a DVD watched, many a bottle of champagne drank, many a spare rib munched on and many a laugh had. Q: What's the last CD you bought? A: The White Stripes. Get Behind Me Satan. The Stripes are one of the few new bands that I think are any good in the last ten years. The album I bought before that was With Teeth by Nine Inch Nails. Q: What's your homepage? A: www.mikebelgrave.co.uk I've had this for ages and it lists all my gigs and has a few photos on it. Q: How would you spend £100? A: Dow the pub with my friends. Champagne's on me boys and girls. Q: How do you relax? A: I don't get much time to relax, but when I do I like to either spend it watching TV, which I rarely get to do and the rest of the time I like to be with my friends talking, drinking, eating and watching movies. Q: Describe yourself in three words... A: Funny, sexy and deluded. Q: What did you want to be when you grew up? A: A radio DJ. So I guess being a comedian isn't too far removed from what I wanted to do. Q: Tell us a joke... A: One of the worst things to say to a comic, which results in you not hearing a joke no matter how much you ask. Come to the gig and you'll hear a joke there. |
