Pete Devereux
from Artful Dodger
Pete Devereux is one half of garage kings Artful
Dodger, who teamed up with a series of up-and-coming
r&b artists to sell over a million singles in
the UK in less than a year.
Starting his music career as a DJ on pirate stations
and in nightclubs, Pete met his partner in crime
Mark Hill at a club in Southampton and went on
to hit the big time with 1999 smash Re-Rewind
featuring Craig David.
Mark
and Pete are both classically trained musicians
- Pete is a pianist and Mark played for the Welsh
Philharmonic Orchestra. Although they bill themselves
as producers, they say their music is more about
instruments than sampling.
Since
pioneering two-step in England, Artful Dodger
have had hits with Lifford on Please Dont
Turn Me On, Robbie Craig and Craig David
on Woman Trouble, Romina Johnson on
Movin Too Fast, and - most recently
- Michelle Escoffrey on Think About Me.
As
well as guest DJ-ing around the world last year
Pete and Mark still found time to release their
debut album Its All About the Stragglers.
