Betty Boo

Betty Boo was a pop phenomenon in the late 1980s and early 90s.

Betty (real name Alison Clarkson) has been absent from the world of pop for a few years after taking time out in 1994 to look after her mother.

Since then she has been writing songs for other people and re-emerged into the limelight recently as the writer of Hear'Says huge number one debut single 'Pure and Simple'. There are also rumours that Betty Boo will collaborate with Moby on a track for his new album.

In August 1989 charts everywhere had to be widened to accomodate the number 7 hit:
'Hey DJ - I Can't Dance (To That Music You're Playing)' by Beatmasters featuring Betty Boo'.
It was Betty's first Top Ten hit, but certainly not her last. In 1990 'Doin The Do' went to number 7 and 'Where Are You Baby' hit the top 3.

Betty was very much a one-woman band, writing and producing much of her material herself. Her debut album 'Boomania' went platinum. Betty's later releases were less successful - but there were still two more Top 40 hits and a hit album to come before she turned to writing for other people.

But that isn't the end of the story...
QoP asked Betty:

(o)   Have you met any of Hear'Say?
(o)   What did you feel about their version of 'Pure and Simple'?
(o)   What about your own music?
(o)   What kind of style can we expect from your new projects?
