Junior Mastermind 2006 - Domhnall, the King of the Black Chair!
After twenty of the cleverest 10 and 11 year olds had battled through five exciting heats, six were left to contest the final … and what a close contest it was!
Domhnall from Dublin had already flown through the heats thanks to his passion for the Spitfire, and he marked his territory in the final with his knowledge of mammals of the African Plain. However, leading the way after round one was Barney from West Yorkshire, who scored an incredible 19 points on the Zulu Wars of 1879.
In a thrilling General Knowledge round, Ayla from Cambridgeshire took the lead with 29 points. She was immediately over-hauled by Roisin from the Wirral with 30, who was then just edged out by Domhnall and Barney, who tied on 31 points and 1 pass.

With tension mounting, Domhnall and Barney faced an identical set of tie break questions and it still couldn’t have been closer: Domhnall just made it, by 2 points to 1. Congratulations then to Domhnall, commiserations to Barney and to all who braved the black chair throughout the series.
