Today Oxford
| Sally
joined BBC South 18 years ago and has reported on virtually every major story
in the region over that time. She
was recently awarded the MBE
for services to regional broadcasting, collecting the honour from the Queen at
a ceremony in Buckingham Palace in December 2005. Away from the screen
Sally enjoys sailing. She has a passion for good wine and food and is a keen organic
gardener. She
writes a weekly column in the Southern Daily Echo, which she calls her "rant of
the week"! In 1999 Sally underwent surgery for breast cancer and as a result is
now heavily involved in a number of charities; she is also a Patron of 'Simon
Says', a charity that helps children who are bereaved. She works closely with
the Hampshire Learning and Skills Council and Business Link in promoting local
businesses across the South. On-screen, Sally is well-known for her easy
and relaxed style, she loves presenting South Today and takes her responsibilities
very seriously, but nothing is more important to her than interacting with the
audience. Sally's professionalism and attention to detail is key to her
style and her sharp sense of humour with her colleagues and with the audience
at home, has made her one of the most popular presenters in the South of England.

| Roger
is the Sports Presenter on South Today - and stands in for Sally when she is away.
He joined the team in 1997 - and has reported all the big sports stories in the
south since then. His personal highlights include Ellen MacArthur's record-breaking
sailing performances - and presenting a regional half hour programme from the
Match of the Day studio in the Millennium Stadium when Southampton reached the
FA Cup Final in 2003. "People often tell me I look and sound a bit like Gary Lineker
- that's about as close as I'll ever get to being him," Roger joked.
"The high profile team sports always give us plenty of material - whether it's
managerial changes, new signings or important matches. But there are also many
outstanding individuals - in a whole range of sports - who are a pleasure to deal
with both on and off camera."
Roger's
most unusual broadcast involved getting wet: "Each summer a sandbank clears for
a short time in the middle of the Solent - and a group of people sail out there
and jump onto the sand to play cricket. We decided to broadcast live from the
game - but had to be ready to transmit before the water had completely gone. Having
arrived at work that morning in a suit - not expecting to end up on a boat -
I had to leap waist deep into the water still in my suit trousers!"
Roger is keen to hear from people who have a sporting tale to tell -
e-mail him. |

Georgie
is the weather presenter on South Today. She has been working in television production
for seven years as a producer, reporter and presenter. She has strong links with
the region - her father was born in Gosport and her paternal grandfather was Head
of the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors and was based in Portsmouth. Georgie
also went to school in Reading where she was Head Girl of Queen Anne's School
in Caversham. After studying French and Spanish at the University of
the West of England, Georgie pursued her lifelong ambition of a career in broadcasting
which she embarked upon in London. Over the years she has worked for various channels,
and has also lived and worked in Ecuador, France and Spain. Outside
of work, Georgie is a keen surfer and swimmer and loves travelling, cooking, socialising
and spending time with her family. She also enjoys raising money for charity and
took part in this year's Bournemouth Pier to Pier swim, and has previously trekked
in Uzbekistan for charity. She has always had a keen interest in the
weather - as a young girl she enjoyed collecting the rainfall with her Grandfather
and recording the day's weather, and still looks at her weather house that her
parents gave her when she 10 years old! "I am really looking forward to living
near the coast and getting my surfboard out - now I'll know exactly when and where
the surf's up!" Georgie would love you to e-mail
her your weather pictures. | |

Roger is familiar to generations of news viewers. From 1985 he presented Newsround
on Childrens' BBC. He's been with South Today since the early nineties. For many
years he was the Environment Correspondent, notably reporting on the Newbury bypass
saga. He also co-presented with Sally for several years. Now he is more often
indulging his first love - film making. Outside work his interests include travelling,
sailing and his children.

Jo joined South Today as a presenter and reporter in 2004. "I grew up in
Worthing, West Sussex but pursuing my dream career in broadcasting has kept
me on the go." After studying in London she joined BBC local radio in
the Channel Islands and soon presented the breakfast show it was then to BBC
regional television in Norwich where she first presented on-screen. She loves
travel, spending time with friends, and keeps fit by playing hockey and doing
yoga.

Stuart's lived in the South all his life - he was born in Shoreham-by-Sea and
grew up in Worthing. "I still remember watching South Today with my Mum and
Dad - in those days it was presented by Bruce Parker and Jenni Murray. Nowadays
my hands are full with my own children - three girls to keep me on my toes."
"Working
for South Today is certainly interesting - particularly when it all goes wrong.
I've had a crowd of vocal football suporters chanting some rude words about the
hat I was wearing during a live report from a pub, and of course there was the
morning when there was a camera fault - I appeared bright purple on air!" |
When Caroline is not in the studio reading the news she's out reporting from the
South's news stories of the day. "Two memorable days for me were the D-Day and
the Trafalgar commemorations. It's a real privilege to meet extraordinary people
who've done extraordinary things and I am often quite humbled." Caroline is a
keen gardener and is busy designing her West Sussex garden. "I reported live
from the Chelsea Flower show - I was like a child in a sweet shop!" |

| Dani
joined BBC South from BBC Radio Berkshire. She hails from Liverpool and still
has her razor-sharp tongue and sense of humour to show for it!
She
studied French and Latin at Bristol University, then did a postgraduate diploma
in broadcast journalism at City University, London. She plays the piano and loves
skiing and yoga. | | |

Tony joined the BBC at the age of 21 in 1998 after completing a Multimedia Journalism
degree at Bournemouth University. As
well as working on South Today, he commentates on Southampton matches for BBC
Radio Solent and is a keen sportsman,
he particularly enjoys cricket and played for Devon Colts in his teens.
|
| Peter
liaises with our politicians for South Today, BBC local Radio and Online. While
he's keeping a finger on the Westminster pulse, Peter also works hard to uncover
the political stories that matter to you. On Sundays he presents the Politics
Show on BBC1. "We've been to amazing places, from the Isle of Wight extreme
sports festival to the Brighton Dog Track, for some great debate on issues that
really matter." Peter lives in the New Forest with his wife Sam, who's a teacher,
and his three sons.
|
| Geraldine
presents South Today from our studios in Oxford. Viewers in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire,
parts of Northamptonshire, Swindon and the Cotswolds can see her at 6.30pm and
at 10.25pm from Monday to Friday. "Someone asked me recently if I was cartoon
character, which would I be? I said Bart Simpson - but the truth is I'm probably
more like Lisa." Geraldine likes fishfinger sandwiches, sleeping and early Woody
Allen films. She doesn't like hot drinks, wasps and parallel parking.
|
|
Jerome is the
sports presenter on the South Today programme for Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire,
Northamptonshire and Swindon. He also presents the programme when Geraldine is
away. He says: "If variety is the spice of life, then I am very lucky.
I get to cover sport and news in an area I am passionate about. A pretty good
result."
