Whernside is the highest of the Three Peaks, rising to 2,414 feet.
This impressive hill is made up primarily of millstone grit.
Commonly called "the roof" of Yorkshire, its long shallow slopes host a number of tributaries of Little Dale Beck and Winterscales Beck which eventually run into the River Doe.
Whernside is a good vantage point to view the surrounding countryside, including the other two peaks, as well as trains on the Ribblehead viaduct.
