Chris
Jackson sets out through glorious scenery to explore the seven most notable man
made wonders in the North East and Cumbria - as recommended by the people living
in the region. His journey spans 4,500 years and several hundred miles. Amongst
the man made wonders is Long Meg and her Daughters, an ancient stone circle in
Cumbria. This is one of the oldest and largest stone circles in the world. Another
iconic location is Vindolanda, a fort on Hadrians Wall that has been painstakingly
restored by archaeologists. And no trip around the North's man made wonders
would be complete without a trip to Durham Cathedral, said by Bill Bryson to be
"the best cathedral on planet earth". There's also some surprises
including one of the region's most stunning castles.
