is what the Points West "cache" looks like |
The
BBC Points West Geocache can be found via a high tech treasure hunt.
There
are around 90,000 caches around the world and 4000 of them are in
the UK.
They've
been hidden by fellow Geocachers who give you the coordinates of
the cache for you to find using a GPS receiver.
A GPS
(Global positioning satellite) uses clever trickery to tell you
your exact coordinates on planet Earth.
There
are usually little trinkets inside the "cache" for people
to take away - as long as they leave something behind!
BBC
Points West's Wiltshire reporter, Steve Knibbs, along with Geocacher,
Paul Smith, visited a couple of cache sites in the west country
including Tog
Hill just off the Bath junction of the M4 and Bristol
Panorama.
They
ended up near Swindon where they hid the BBC Points West cache.

Inside
it are some BBC goodies and a camera. The idea is that people who
find the cache take a picture of themselves and we'll show the results
in the coming weeks.
