"I
knew I wanted to be a journalist, and went the traditional route
- working on papers, hospital radio, then BBC Radio, then Points
West."
She's certainly gone beyond the call of duty for the programme
on occasion.
In 2000, she was filming gorillas and chimps in Cameroon as
part of a story about Bristol Zoo - and still has the gorilla
bite scar to prove it!
Last year she attempted a world record stunt on top of a hot
air balloon - unfortunately it went a bit wrong and she still
has the burn scar to prove that!
Most of the time though, she reports the main stories of the
day in the region - anything from health breakthroughs to serious
crime to skateboarding ducks ("Actually a story about a hotel
for teddy bears was about the silliest I've done...").
Sally thinks she has the perfect job.
Because she's bringing up her two young children alone, she
works three days a week and gets to report, present and produce
the programme too.
"Where else would I be given half an hour of prime time BBC
television to fill - to bring people the news that's relevant
to them, and interesting and entertaining to all?"
In 2002 she got the opportunity to film two special reports
about the area she grew up - Hartcliffe in Bristol, which was
celebrating its first 50 years.
"It was wonderful going back to my old haunts, schools, shops
and clubs," says Sally.
"And a great opportunity to present the area in a good
light - it so often gets a bad press."
Outside work, Sally loves walking (she climbed Mt Kilimanjaro
in 2001 and harbours an ambition to make it to Everest Base
Camp one day), but spends most of her time with her two children,
Harry and Mary.
If there was another ambition lurking, it would be to write
a book, and to learn to fly. |
