Soon he realised the industry required more than a great smile
and a sympathetic face.
So he
completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism.
His first
job was on a local cable TV show where he got his first taste
of what he’s doing now - as an entertainment reporter.
He then
became a news reporter on LIVE TV in Liverpool and then moved
to their sister station in Birmingham.
Ashley
was then drawn to the bright lights of London and became a
reporter/presenter on ‘London Today’ and ‘London Tonight’,
and even went undercover to highlight the war between hot-dog
traders in the city.
After
producing and presenting holiday reports from around the world,
London Weekend Television offered him the chance to work on
‘Dream Ticket’, which combined his journalistic skills with
his love of travelling.
Ashley
then became a reporter for ‘Breakfast News’ but was still
keen to return home. A three month stint as late presenter/reporter,
on Midlands Today, led to him becoming our entertainment reporter.
"My time
in London has proved successful and I’ve enjoyed the opportunities,
but I’ve always wanted to move back to my home city, Birmingham,
where I grew up.
"Being
part of the 'Midlands Today’ team is a dream come true because
it enables me to work in a city I have always had a passion
for."
Ashley's
a busy man, too. He can also be seen presenting "Inside Out"
and reporting for "Watchdog" on BBC 1.
