The
Contenders
BEN
& CHARLOTTE HOLLINS
The
brother and sister team run Fordhall Farm near Market Drayton
in Shropshire. Fordall is one of the first farms in England
to use traditional organic practises. But earlier this year
they were set to lose their family heritage when their father
Arthur died. The farm has been in the family for over 100
years and Ben and Charlotte needed to find £100,000
to renew the lease. In their twenties and still studying the
outlook was gloomy.
But
a plan to sell shares to the public for £50 each has
paid off. Now more than 8,000 people own Fordhall Farm and
Ben and Charlotte have been able to save part of the English
countryside from the clutches of developers.
