Our
March Weather Picture Competition judge is Rev
Dr John Harrison from Spittal, Berwick-upon-Tweed.
John
worked as a climatologist, before changing direction to become
a vicar.
He
has been a fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society for
over 30 years and says his one claim to fame was to have had
his photo of rime on a fence post published in the Societys
magazine!
He
maintains a keen interest in the weather & climate, providing
data to the Met Office as a volunteer weather observer.
John
relished the chance to choose our March winner as he sees
March as a month which does not really know whether it is
winter or spring, but one which always brings spells of excellent
visibility and dramatic cloudscapes.
Rev
Dr John Harrison, said of the March pictures:
There
were a lot of good spring pictures and a lot of snowy ones,
not surprising really given the weather at the beginning
of the month. There were way too many to make an easy judgement
Of
the winning shot of the Solway coast John said:
A
superb picture by Peter Moppett. There is huge depth here,
lots of texture, lots of interest. The clouds take you into
the background as do the people, wrapped up in their warm
coats. A lovely picture.
