Karen
Melvin selected the shot of a cornfield just outside Alnwick,
under cirrus clouds as the June
competition winner.
Karen
said Kevins picture had very strong elements,
was beautifully designed and all flowed together
Karen
Melvin is a photographic artist who constructs images
in front of an old-fashioned plate camera, using found objects
from nature and domestic debris.
Recently
she has been taking posed pictures of friends and family and
making photographic paper doll cut-outs to place in natural
settings in the house or outside in the garden.
These
new images have a fairytale quality and are a modern take
on how such folklore reflects in our lives now.
She
has an exhibition of this work, which was supported by the
Arts Council, North East, on now at the Myles Meehan Gallery,
Darlington Arts Centre until 16 July and later at the the
Angela flowers gallery in London, the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle
and the Queens hall in Hexham.
