Susie
Fowler-Watt presents BBC Look East, the BBC's regional news programme
for the Eastern Counties, alongside co-presenter Stewart White.
Born
in Sussex in 1969, Susie lived at a boys' school which her parents
ran. She was the only girl pupil there for a few years, a situation
she very much enjoyed!
After
a gap year studying in the USA, Susie went to Cambridge University
in 1987, where she read philosophy and experimental psychology.
She
also acted and sang in a band while she was there.
Afterwards,
Susie went on to do a postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism
at the London College Of Printing, and was awarded a BBC bursary.
She
joined BBC Radio Surrey in 1991 as a production assistant, and became
district reporter in Lowestoft for BBC Radio Suffolk a few months
later. After
stints reporting in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich, she returned to
Surrey in 1993 to work as a news producer, news editor and drivetime
presenter.
In
1994 Susie moved to Westminster to become an assistant producer
for BBC political programmes. This
was her introduction to television, working on the BBC TWO programmes
Westminster Live, Westminster Daily and The Midnight Hour, as well
as budget and election specials.
Over
the next three years, she went on to report on national politics
for local radio, and then became the political correspondent for
BBC Look East.
She
interviewed many of the leading politicians of the day, including
Tony Blair, John Major and Gordon Brown.
After
the 1997 General Election, Susie was offered the job as presenter
of BBC Look East, and has worked alongside Stewart
White ever since.
She
says, "Stewart and I get on very well, both on and off screen, which
makes the job much easier and much more fun."
Both
of them have editorial input, and will sometimes report for the
programme as well.
Susie
has worked for the BBC since she was 21 and is married to Alex
Dunlop, a reporter for BBC Look East. They live in Norfolk
with their daughter and small menagerie of pets.
In
her spare time, Susie enjoys the cinema, theatre and yoga.
