Presenter Profile - Stewart White

Stewart White presents BBC Look East, the BBC's regional news programme for the Eastern Counties, alongside co-presenter Susie Fowler-Watt.

Picture: Stewart White.

Stewart's first live broadcast for the BBC began with a short announcement to introduce a programme in Vietnamese on the BBC World Service.

Following this, Stewart spent some time at BBC Radio Brighton before moving to BBC Radio Derby, where he produced and presented a variety of news and entertainment programmes.

Stewart left BBC Radio Derby to join BRMB Radio in Birmingham, where he presented the daily mid-morning programme.

During his time there he interviewed many well known faces, including senior politicians such as Edward Heath and film stars Sophia Loren, Joan Collins and Dirk Bogarde. He has the distinction of being the last person in Britain to do a live interview with Michael Jackson!

It was around this time that Stewart made the move from radio to television and joined ATV (later to become Central Television), working on a number of programmes including Star Soccer, Something Different and several network documentaries. He was also the first human to appear on Spitting Image!

In 1984, Stewart became presenter of BBC Look East and has worked with a number of co-presenters.

Of his on-air partnership with Susie Fowler-Watt, he says: "She is a joy to present with. There is absolute trust between us, she can challenge people when it is needed, be light hearted when it is needed and, most importantly, we never try to upstage each other".

Stewart has still kept his strong links with radio and presents a weekly programme for BBC Radio Norfolk. For many years he was also the voice behind the BBC Radio 5 Live football coverage in East Anglia.

Stewart lives in South Norfolk with his wife, three children, a dog, a cat, and several fish. An avid golf player, Stewart was recently Captain of his local golf club and enjoys reading, sport and mowing the lawn!
