She worked in a number of different roles at BBC Radio Nottingham, including programme presentation, before moving to television in 1997 as picture editor and planner for BBC East Midlands Today - based in its Leicester office.

During this time Julie also stood in as BBC East Midlands Today's weather forecaster.

This included fronting the weekly what's on guide, Roving Reinger. She also worked on other features for the programme such as Gardens Galore, Dream Jobs and Crazy Collectors.

Julie briefly returned to the BBC East Midlands Today Leicester planning desk before joining the BBC's regional news programme for the Eastern Counties, BBC Look East, as its full-time weather presenter.

She started work on the programme, which is based in Norwich, in February 1999. As well as doing lunch time and nightly forecasts for BBC Look East, Julie also presents weather bulletins for six BBC Local Radio stations in the area - BBC Essex, BBC Three Counties Radio, BBC Radio Norfolk, BBC Radio Suffolk, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and BBC Radio Northampton.
