Presenter Profile - Amanda Goodman

Amanda launched the Look East Close Up news service in 1997 from our studios in Cambridge.

Amanda Goodman.

Since being on-air, the service has seen audience figures in the west of the region increase significantly.

A BBC news trainee, Amanda made her name while still at Oxford University when she secured an exclusive interview with the Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan when he announced he was leaving cricket.

She has since had a number of notable exclusives including the story of Helen Smith, the young woman who lost all limbs through meningitis.

As a result of Amanda's original report, an anonymous donor paid for Helen to go to one of the world's top false limb centres, leading to a BBC East documentary which won two RTS awards.

Amanda gave birth to her first child, Jessica, in the summer of 2000. That was swiftly followed 12 months later by Toby. Most of her spare time is spent with her "Irish twins" as she calls them, and horse-riding.
