ERIC HOMEPAGE
'I
heard Eric Hall play 'Making Memories' by Frankie Laine the
other day, where can I buy this CD?
 |
| Frankie
Laine |
This
is a question that is frequently asked by listeners to the
show. The song a hit in the USA reached number 35 on the American
charts in 1967. Eric uses the song as his theme tune and it
regularly starts off the programme each Sunday at three o'clock,
the one exception was the show on Sunday, 9th November 2003
when it was replaced by the Beverley Sisters. That Sunday's
programme was a Remembrance Day Special hence the change.
Eric
says 'the song is perfect, because it sums up the show - making
memories'. Eric booked Frankie Laine for his first show at
BBC Essex and played 'Making Memories' as his first disc and
it got such a reaction he played it the next week and the
next week...
Satril
Records put out a compilation called 'Making Memories' with
the track on in 1998 SATCD 5001 if you hunt around in record
and charity shops you may be able to still find a copy.

The
latest album to contain the song is 'Making Memories Greatest
Hits' a 2 CD compilation on Ronco CDSR180 that was released
in April 2003. This is available from your local record shop.
'Eric
plays really old songs that I like! How can I get hold of
the tracks?
The
best place to start these days is on the internet. HMV or
Virgin have fully searchable catalogues online as do many
of the high street stores - find out if the song is still
on release, many are. If it is not - then sometimes the artist
has compilations and album on sale still - it might not have
the track on you want but you can still enjoy that singer's
music.
Eric
has a large record collection and likes to play unusual tracks
so it is often the case that you won't be able to buy the
song he played. If it's not for sale in a high street store
then you might be lucky and find it in your local charity
shop.
Happy
hunting!
'Is
it really your birthday next Tuesday and are you eighty-six?'
The
answer to this one is quite simple No and No! He's Ninety-four
next Thursday!
