Presenter Profiles - Nicola Beswick

Nicola's first taste of the BBC was aged 8 as a Blue Peter Badge winner (which, rather proudly, she still owns and wears on special occasions if you ask nicely!).

Thoughts of becoming a Blue Peter presenter and reading Jackanory were overshadowed as Nicola became distracted by the lure of languages (among other things!), going on to study French and Spanish at the University of Nottingham.

Nicola will juggle the early morning weather bulletins with appearances on EMT - it's a hard life!

The pull of Nottingham and Notts County meant she stayed in Nottinghamshire after graduating, working with journalists but on 'the other side' - in public relations!

After a couple of years in Nottingham her career in PR and Marketing led her to London. But following a three-month life-changing trip to South America where Nicola hiked the five-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and nearly got eaten* by a puma in Patagonia, she realised she was too far from her love of media and radio.

In 2001 Nicola joined London's Capital Radio, producing the Flying Eye travel broadcasts on Chris Tarrant's breakfast show.

She became known (fondly she likes to think!) as 'Nicola Nightmare' by Mr Tarrant, as this was her one-word response whenever he asked her how the roads were looking.

After producing, Nicola became a travel presenter on Capital Gold and also took to the skies over London presenting from the Flying Eye plane.

In March 2003 Nicola joined the BBC, as a Travel Presenter on TV and radio for BBC London News and BBC London 94.9.

But the pull of Nottingham and the Magpies was too much - in June 2006 she passed on the Player/Manager role at Meadow Lane and plumped for Weather Presenter at BBC Nottingham instead.
