North East and Cumbria Regional Advisory Council Meeting

A summary of the June 2005 North East & Cumbria Regional Advisory
Council (RAC) meeting held at BBC Newcastle.
1. Attendance
This was the first meeting of the new 2005-06 business year and
a welcome was extended to the newly appointed RAC Chair and 6 new
members. Apologies had been received from one member.
BBC representatives present throughout the meeting were: Sarah
Drummond, Charter Review Co-ordinator, North East & Cumbria,
(standing in for Wendy Pilmer, Head of Regional & Local Programmes)
and Bernie Fitzpatrick, Public Accountability Manager. Michael Wild,
Editor, Political Programmes, attended for part of the meeting.
2. Matters arising from the previous meeting
The minutes of the meeting held on Friday 25 February 2005 were
approved as being a true record.
3. Programme Reviews
Members gave their feedback, and that of Local Advisory Council
(LAC) members, on the following BBC programmes: The Politics Show;
Politics England and coverage of the General Election.
4. Chairman's Report
Highlights were given of the March English National Forum (ENF)
meeting held in Birmingham. The June ENF seminar would explore the
expanding role of digital technologies in the world of broadcasting
and communication.
Sarah Drummond briefed members on the BBC Governors' response to
the Government's Green Paper on the BBC Charter.
5. Local Advisory Council Reports
The LAC Chairs from Radio Cleveland; Radio Cumbria and Radio Newcastle
updated members on their written reports.
6. Head of Regional & Local Programmes Report
Sarah Drummond highlighted the main points from the written quarterly
report (using the four Public Value Test criteria: Reach; Quality;
Impact and Value for Money).
7. Any other business
Look North: Members discussed the new set and commented on the
recent change in weather graphics.
The next meeting will be held in September.
