Description:
|
Moorlands is a mix of agricultural, urban and industrial land, and contains a fair part of the Peak District National Park. There are some affluent small towns that house commuters to Stoke, whilst much of the countryside attracts tourists in their droves. Other than tourism and farming, industry include textiles, cement, pottery, copper and the quarrying of sand and gravel. Leek is the main centre of population, and is home to the Britannia Building Society and Kerrygold spread factory. Leek, and certainly the small sheep-farming communities to the north west, have little in common with urban overspill centres like Kidsgrove and its near neighbour, Biddulph, but the sway of those towns will help Labour win this seat, until possible future boundary changes remove them from the political equation.
