Description:
|
The constituency includes the towns of Richmond, Barnes and some of Kingston-Upon-Thames as well as the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and Richmond Park which has given the constituency its name. BAE closed a plant in the constituency with the loss of 3,200 jobs. The council applied for Assisted Area Status to help with retraining, which was not granted. The constituency also includes Latchmere House, a C category prison at Ham Common. The constituency has one of the highest proportions of professional and managerial households in the country (over 66%). The seat also has a relatively low number of children of school age, a relatively small percentage of people in part-time work and very few on government schemes. Perhaps Richmond Park is the land of the double-income-no-kids-yet "dinkys".
