Description:
|
Pendle is mainly an urban constituency based on the towns of Nelson and Colne plus the communities of Barnoldswick, Barrowford and Earby. There are also a small number of villages in between the Pennine hills. Unemployment is comparatively low and nearly half the workforce are employed in manufacturing - about double the national average. This acounts for the high number of skilled manuals and partly skilled people amongst the workforce. As with other Lancashire towns there is a large amount of traditional terraced housing which explains why there is a high level of owner-occupation - 79.1%. Pendle's Asian community forms nearly 10% of the population.
