Description:
|
Jim Cunningham won Coventry South East with a narrow margin in 1992 (3.6%) but the vote was split by the Independent Labour candidate Dave Nellist, the incumbent MP who was expelled from the Labour Party in 1991 as Militant. The constituency includes the town centre, where a major new shopping precinct has been developed. Both Coventry SE and Coventry SW were dominated by the motor industry, which, though still in decline, will be the main industry in the new seat.
